Clik here to view.RICHMOND speedster Matt White has been offered a contract by Port Adelaide, with the unrestricted free agent set to join new teammates at Alberton.
The 26-year old is seeking regular opportunity he has consistently lacked at Punt Road and coach Ken Hinkley is keen to add him to the Power’s squad heading into 2014.
“We’re really excited that we think we’re going to be in a pretty healthy position to get that to happen,” Hinkley told AFL.com.au’s Gillette Trade Week Radio.
Hinkley said the recruitment of White would be a tick for the Power’s draft/free agency shopping list.
“We’re looking for some outside run and some outside use, there’s no doubt about that.
“When you build a list, you build it with needs and we looked at our needs and … we think he would certainly add to us.
“So we would love to think that we can get that done. Yes we’ve had good healthy discussion with him and he’s had good healthy discussions back to us.”
White has played 105 games for the Tigers, including 16 in 2013, since his 2006 debut.
“It’s a massive opportunity to come to a great club in Port Adelaide and I’m really looking forward to what the next few years can bring the club and me personally,” said White.
“It’s a massive thing for me to come over to SA and into a group that’s played in two finals this year.
“I know Ken runs a pretty tight ship and I’m really excited about the challenge of trying to slot into the 22 each week and hopefully be playing finals come the end of next year.
“Ken and Alan Richardson have outlined some key roles for me to play throughout the year, but I’m just looking forward to getting out there and playing on some quality opponents, as well as hopefully winning a lot of games!”
Per a statement released by the club, Port Adelaide senior coach Ken Hinkley says White will be a valuable addition to the Power’s list as well as a club-oriented player who will quickly fit in at Alberton.
“Matt has got great character and is a fantastic person – he’s exactly the type of player we want to be getting to our football club,” said Hinkley.
“Attracting the right type of people to our club is so important.
“But he also satisfies our list needs and we believe he can play a couple of roles for us over the next three years.
“Getting some outside run to the club was a priority going into this trade period and it is a tremendous result that we’ve been able to secure a player of Matt’s quality so early in this period.”
Port Adelaide FC has today formally lodged an unrestricted Free Agency offer for Matthew White with the AFL.
